The Real Reason You Never Ship

I meet passionate vibe coders every single week. They all build really amazing stuff, but most of them face the same challenge: they never ship.

I know the feeling. I've been building prototypes for over a decade before I shipped my first product. From the conversations with those builders as well as my own experience, I think it boils down to one reason (brace yourself, this one will hurt):

Fear of Failure.

That's it. And you know it. Usually, we come up with an excuse like "it needs this one more feature before I can launch" or "it's just so busy right now with family, I'll do it when things calm down".

The ironic part is that Vibe Coding and AI agents make prototyping so fast and fun, it’s easier than ever to get stuck in that loop. We build amazing things in a weekend, then convince ourselves the ease of building means we should keep going until it's 'perfect.' Don't fall for that trap.

And I get it. It's so much nicer to keep imagining yourself as the successful entrepreneur who just never made it because of whatever excuse you came up with. Especially, if the alternative is to actually try and then face brutal reality. Because the first time you'll try, you'll almost certainly fail. But that's okay.

Don't make the mistake of interpreting your first failed product as you being a failure. It's simply that you are at the very beginning of your entrepreneurial journey and failing is part of that journey. Most successful entrepreneurs that you see out there that keep bragging about their 5-figure monthly recurring revenue are doing this for 5-10 years or more.

Visualize your Future

The most powerful way to prevent the prototyping loop is to stop building and take a step back. Most people dive right into action whereas instead they should start by figuring out and writing down why they are doing this in the first place.

Someone close to me once revealed that they "visualized" their future every single day. At the time, I thought it was just a silly thing to do. However, I did reflect on this roughly 3,5 years ago as another personal family incident reminded me that it's only myself that can build the future I want.

So now, I visualize my future and write it down on a piece of paper that is pinned to the white board in my home office. See below for my own current canvas. If you want to do write down your own future and pin it to your wall, feel free to use my template here.

And once you've written down your why?, it's time to get into execution mode. Break your prototyping loop and πŸ‘‡

Bottom Line

Not shipping makes you stay in your comfort zone. But that's not the strategy that will help you make your first $1, let alone build a successful business.

So, to break your prototyping loop you should start dreaming and write down the future you want on a piece of paper.

Then, finally stop with the excuses and hit that "Publish" button TODAY (don't keep building over the weekend!).

Cheers,
